Grain-Free Cat Food
To live up to our motto ‘more meat, less grains,’ we have included — alongside grain-reduced cat food — also grain-free cat food in our range. You understand: too many grains (of poor quality) are out of the question for us. Apart from a grain-reduced and grain-free composition, we also advocate a high meat content; after all, our house tigers are and remain true carnivores.
How to recognize high-quality cat food?
As we already mentioned above, cats are true carnivores by nature. Therefore, make sure your fluffy friend’s meal contains plenty of animal proteins. However, quality cat food is not complete with meat alone; essential nutrients — such as fats, minerals, and vitamins — must not be missing either. With this knowledge, we at Prima Diervoeding have created healthy cat food with quality ingredients.
Are grains bad for your cat?
The debate about grains in cat food continues to flare up; some manufacturers believe grains are harmless, while others prefer to avoid them. The fact remains that there is not a single grain in the natural cat diet. Although grains — if properly pre-cooked, processed, and in the right amounts — are not harmful to your cat’s health, we at Prima Diervoeding believe that grain-reduced or grain-free cat food is a better choice.
Cat food with a lot of grains; what are the consequences?
Too many grains (of poor quality) can cause unpleasant complaints. Your cat may suffer from itching, stomach and intestinal issues, and hair loss. Because grain-free food contains no grains, your fluffy friend will be happily purring and hopping around the house again. All the more reason to fill your (online) shopping cart with grain-reduced or grain-free cat food.
What is grain-free cat food?
Unlike grain-free kibbles, regular cat food is filled with (too) many grains. This is how manufacturers keep costs low. It also creates a firmer texture, making the kibbles look nicer and preventing them from falling apart. A shame, because it is not only unnecessary; the nutritional value also leaves much to be desired. Since grain-free cat food is not filled with unnecessary grains, there is more room for extra meat. And that makes both you and your house tiger very happy!
Which grains are most common in cat food?
Having trouble recognizing grains in the ingredients? Don’t worry, below we list the most common grains:
- Corn
- Wheat
- Rice
- Oats
- Barley
What are the alternative carbohydrate sources?
In grain-free cat food, grains are replaced by alternative carbohydrate sources such as potatoes, lentils, and peas.
The benefits of grain-free cat food
Before you add grain-free kibbles to your shopping cart, here are the benefits of quality, grain-free cat food:
- Less chance of itching, hair loss, stomach and intestinal problems
- Better digestion
- A higher meat content
- Less stool
