Healthy food is step one. Step two is the right amount, but how many kibbles does your dog actually need? This question isn’t easy to answer quickly; it depends on the composition, your dog’s lifestyle, and weight.
Fortunately, every dog food brand provides a feeding chart indicating the required amount per weight class. You don’t have to look far for this; you’ll find every feeding chart on the packaging.

always following the feeding chart on the packaging. If you feel the amount is too low or too high for your active or less active dog, consult your vet; together you can adjust the amount slightly up or down.
Beware of overweight and underweight
As mentioned earlier, it’s important to stick to the recommended amount. If you don’t, your dog may gain some extra (unwanted) pounds. Moreover, your four-legged friend could suffer from overloaded joints, heart problems, and lethargy.
Also be careful not to give too little. Not only will your dog lose a lot of weight, but there’s also a good chance of shedding, a dull coat, and low energy levels.
How often?
Now that it’s clear how much food your dog needs, you probably also want to know how many meals to give per day.
At Prima Diervoeding, we follow this rule of thumb: give two to three meals per day. So divide the required amount over two to three meals given at fixed times. In other words, breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Here’s an extra tip: always let your furry friend out
before eating. This can help prevent gastric torsion.
