Use the feeding chart
To find out how much food your dog needs, you can use a feeding chart. Ideal, because you don’t have to figure it out yourself.
Every dog food brand is required to include a feeding chart on the packaging. Based on weight, the chart indicates the required amount; so you can see at a glance how much food your dog needs.
Beware of underweight and overweight
Don’t experiment on your own, but stick to the recommended amount; you’ll find this — yes indeed — on the feeding chart.
Do you think your furry friend is eating too many or too few kibble pieces? This can happen, for example, if your dog moves more or less. In that case, the amount can be adjusted slightly. However, don’t do this yourself; first consult your veterinarian.
If your dog consistently eats too much or too little, unpleasant complaints can arise. Overweight is the number one issue, but heart problems, overloaded joints, and low energy levels are also common.
Also watch out for too low an amount; this can be just as harmful. Think of weight loss, shedding, low energy, and a dull coat.
How often?
Make sure to create structure in the number of daily meals. Generally, two to three meals per day are recommended. Feeding your dog at a fixed time also creates extra routine.
