Why not adult dog food?
Don’t give your little bundle of energy adult dog food; instead, consciously choose puppy kibble. The reason is that puppy food contains a higher amount of essential nutrients to support your little friend’s growth.
These ingredients must not be missing
Your pup’s health is our top priority at Prima Diervoeding. That’s why we only use the best ingredients. Our puppy food contains a high meat content, essential carbohydrates, and a good amount of fats. First of all, (many) animal proteins provide your pup with plenty of energy. Furthermore, a high meat content also supports muscles, organs, and the immune system.
However, it’s not just meat that provides energy; fats also make an important contribution to your pup’s energy levels. Did you know that fats also contain omega-3 fatty acids which — among other things — promote a shiny coat and healthy skin?
Carbohydrates are also essential; they support your little rascal’s gut flora.
Why minerals and vitamins?
Prima Diervoeding’s puppy food is incomplete without calcium, phosphorus, and vitamins A and D. And that’s for good reason; these nutrients have important functions. For example, your pup’s bones greatly benefit from calcium and phosphorus. Calcium also plays a key role in your pup’s muscles and teeth.
Vitamins A and D are indispensable for a healthy immune system. Your pup’s skin and eyes also benefit; vitamin A helps with this. Vitamin D is a crucial nutrient for healthy muscle function.

Avoid artificial preservatives
At Prima Diervoeding, we are not fans of artificial preservatives, to say the least. We keep our puppy food as natural as possible; artificial preservatives — such as BHA and BHT — can cause higher blood pressure and skin problems. In other words, avoid them!
To prevent such issues, there are natural alternatives that ensure longer shelf life. Prima Diervoeding’s puppy food contains only vitamin E as a natural alternative. Vitamin C is also widely used.
Ensure the right amount
Don’t just fill the bowl randomly with puppy kibble; follow the feeding table on the packaging.
Too much or too little puppy food can cause health problems. Too little can lead to limited growth, dull coat, lethargy, and weak bones. Overfeeding is also risky; too many puppy kibbles can cause growing pains and sometimes even skeletal abnormalities.
So read the feeding table on the packaging carefully. It calculates the required amount based on your pup’s weight.
Structure is a real must
Your little friend benefits greatly from structure; divide the required amount over four portions per day and feed at fixed times. Maintain this structure for 24 weeks. After 24 weeks, reduce the amount to two to three meals per day.
When is it time for adult dog food?
You can’t feed your dog puppy food their whole life. Eventually, your dog will outgrow the puppy phase. When that moment arrives, your pup can switch to adult dog food. This varies by weight class; here are the guidelines:
- Small breed (1-10 kilos) – 10 to 12 months
- Medium breed (11-24 kilos) – around 12 months
- Large breed (25–44 kilos) – 15 to 18 months
- Very large breed (more than 45 kilos) – 18 to 24 months
