Tasty and Healthy Puppy Food

With our puppy food, you give your little bundle of energy a flying start; Prima Diervoeding provides the best ingredients. Moreover, our dry food is full of flavor. Before you know it, your little one’s tummy will be filled with our delicious puppy kibble.

Don’t Give Your Pup Adult Dog Kibble

Your pup has different nutritional needs than an adult dog. They still have a lot of growing to do; a higher amount of (animal) proteins and fats is a must. In other words, feed your pup food specially formulated for puppies. Dry or wet food for adult dogs contains much less animal protein and fat, making adult dog food unsuitable for puppies.

The Best Ingredients for Healthy Puppy Kibble

To help you choose wisely, we’ll tell you which ingredients should not be missing in puppy food. We start with (animal) proteins; these contribute to a healthy immune system, stable organs, and strong muscles. Even better: meat (or fish) provides your pup with energy. Fats also play an important role in your little friend’s energy supply. Plus, fats are packed with omega-3 fatty acids that give your pup a shiny coat. The same omega-3 fatty acids are also good for healthy skin. Of course, our puppy food also contains carbohydrates; these support a healthy gut flora.

Essential Vitamins and Minerals

It’s not just about (animal) proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. Healthy puppy food also contains a good amount of vitamins and minerals. Think calcium, phosphorus, vitamin D, and vitamin A. Calcium is an essential nutrient for strong bones, healthy puppy teeth, and strong muscles. Then there’s vitamin A; a nutrient that contributes to healthier skin and better eyesight. Vitamin D has a positive effect on your pup’s muscles. Finally, both vitamins play an important role in supporting your little friend’s immune system.

Artificial Fragrances, Colors, and Flavors? Not in Our Puppy Food

To keep our food as healthy as possible, we steer clear of artificial fragrances, colors, and flavors. You also won’t find artificial preservatives—like BHA and BHT—in Prima Diervoeding’s food. These can cause high blood pressure and skin problems. In our puppy food, artificial preservatives are replaced by a natural alternative: vitamin E. This nutrient also ensures a longer shelf life, but without the risk of unpleasant side effects.

Ensure the Right Amount of Kibble

It goes without saying that you shouldn’t just give your little friend any amount of kibble. But how do you know how much puppy food your bundle of energy needs? Simple: check the feeding chart on the packaging; it always indicates the correct amount. Give too much kibble? This can result in growing pains and sometimes even skeletal abnormalities. So be careful! But too little kibble can also cause problems. Limited growth, low energy, a dull coat, and weak bones are common issues with too little food. So don’t deviate from the required amount. Based on your pup’s weight, the feeding chart calculates how much puppy food your little friend needs.

How Many Meals Should Your Pup Have?

Take the required amount—calculated using the feeding chart on the packaging—and divide it into four meals per day. Always give the kibble at the same times; this provides more structure. Follow this routine for the first 24 weeks, then gradually reduce to two to three meals per day.

Time to Switch to Adult Dog Food?

Of course, you can’t feed your pup puppy food their whole life. When your bundle of energy has grown up, it’s time to switch to adult dog food. Since smaller dogs mature earlier than larger dogs, you can’t switch every pup at the same time. To help you out, here are the guidelines:
  • Small breed (1-10 kilos) – 10 to 12 months
  • Medium breed (11-24 kilos) – around 12 months
  • Large breed (25-44 kilos) – 15 to 18 months
  • Very large breed (more than 45 kilos) – 18 to 24 months
