The composition of healthy puppy food
As mentioned above, healthy puppy food is incomplete without (animal) proteins. But fats and carbohydrates are also indispensable ingredients for your puppy’s health.
A high meat content meets your bundle of energy’s energy needs. Moreover, (animal) proteins support a healthy immune system, strong muscles, and healthy organs. Fats are also an important nutrient for your puppy’s energy levels. They also contain omega-3 fatty acids that make a dog’s coat shine beautifully. And let’s not forget the skin; it benefits just as much from omega-3 fatty acids. Finally, carbohydrates contribute to the gut flora of your furry friend.
The importance of vitamins and minerals
With (animal) proteins, fats, and carbohydrates, the foundation is set. Yet our puppy food contains even more important nutrients: phosphorus, calcium, vitamin A, and vitamin D.

How many kibbles?
Make sure you know the recommended amount; don’t just fill the bowl blindly with puppy kibbles. You’ll always find the feeding chart on the packaging, which indicates the correct amount.
But why is it so important not to give too much or too little puppy food? It’s all about health problems; too much can lead to growing pains. In severe cases, it can even cause skeletal abnormalities.
Note: too little can also result in health problems. This can cause a dull coat, limited growth, weak bones, and lethargy.
So it’s important to follow the feeding chart; it calculates the required amount of kibbles based on your puppy’s weight.
Maintain structure
Divide the required amount of puppy food into four portions per day and give these kibbles at fixed times. Do this for 24 weeks, then gradually reduce to two to three meals per day.
When is it time to switch?
"Time flies, doesn’t it": a saying that applies not only to newborn babies but also to our little bundles of energy. Before you know it, you’ll need to switch your puppy to adult dog food. And believe us, it’s sooner than you think!
The transition phase depends on the weight class. Here are the guidelines:
- Small breed (1-10 kilos) – 10 to 12 months
- Medium breed (11-24 kilos) – around 12 months
- Large breed (25-44 kilos) – 15 to 18 months
- Very large breed (more than 45 kilos) – 18 to 24 months
